STATEMENT ON THE CAYMAN ISLANDS NATION-BUILDING FUND - August 2011

In April 2010 the Cayman Ministers’ Association received $50,000.00 from the Nation Building Fund for the purpose of the Miles Ahead campaign, and the entire amount of this as well as considerable other funding from both inside and outside the churches was used for the Miles Ahead (Do Something Cayman) campaign of 2010.

The CMA wishes to point out that in the view of its members it is appropriate in general for the Church or any of the Church's agencies to receive funds from legitimate sources, and many of its members, though perhaps not all, would include the Government as such a source. It is a common and natural practice for governments of countries in which Christian values are recognised to provide some financial assistance as well as moral support for the Church in those countries for its ongoing mission. It is therefore appropriate that the Cayman Ministers' Association, as a Christian agency in the Cayman Islands, might receive such financial support on occasion.

The Church and its agencies are indeed exhorted to be careful not to allow any such support to compromise either a Godly and healthy political independence, or the critical, prayerful and prophetic interaction with governments and other authorities to which the Church is called.

The Cayman Ministers' Association also advises that from an ethical standpoint we counsel our membership to try to maintain an appropriate transparency in all our financial affairs, including those to which this statement refers.
